- Слънцето – идентичност, воля и стремеж към себеизразяване;
- Луната – емоции, инстинкти и потребност от сигурност;
- Меркурий – мислене, възприятие и комуникация;
- Венера – ценности, привличане, любов и свързване;
- Марс – действие, желание, импулс и утвърждаване;
- Юпитер – разширение, смисъл, вяра и развитие;
- Сатурн – структура, ограничения, отговорност и устойчивост;
- Уран – свобода, промяна и индивидуалност;
- Нептун – въображение, идеали, чувствителност и размиване на границите;
How the Conjunction Blends Planetary Energies
Imagine mixing two different colors of paint. Once they are combined, we can still identify the original colors conceptually, but what we actually see is a new color created through their interaction.
A similar principle operates in an astrological conjunction.
Например:
Venus ☌ Mars
Venus represents attraction, pleasure, values, and connection.
Mars represents desire, action, initiative, and pursuit.
Venus says:
“I like this.”
Mars says:
“I want this.”
When Venus and Mars are conjunct, attraction and desire may operate almost simultaneously. A person may not simply experience attraction; there can also be a strong impulse to express it, pursue it, or act upon it.
Now consider:
Mercury ☌ Saturn
Mercury represents thinking and communication, while Saturn represents structure, discipline, boundaries, and control.
Here, thought meets structure.
Ideas pass through the filters of logic, caution, practicality, and responsibility. In a constructive expression, this conjunction may indicate concentration, methodical thinking, and intellectual discipline. In a more challenging expression, it may manifest as excessive caution, inhibition, or difficulty expressing thoughts freely.
Therefore, it is not quite enough to say:
“A conjunction strengthens the planets.”
A more precise formulation would be:
A conjunction concentrates, combines, and mutually modifies the functions of the planets involved.
Which Planet Is Stronger in a Conjunction?
The planets involved in a conjunction do not always participate on completely equal terms.
We need to consider their nature, position by sign and house, essential and accidental dignity, the exactness of the conjunction, and the overall configuration of the chart.
The involvement of the Sun requires particular attention. A planet located very close to the Sun may enter specific traditional conditions that require a more detailed interpretation.
When a personal planet is conjunct an outer planet, the broader or more collective planetary principle often strongly colors the personal function.
Например:
Moon ☌ Pluto
Emotion + intensity + transformation
Venus ☌ Uranus
Relationships + freedom + unpredictability + individuality
Mercury ☌ Neptune
Thinking + imagination + intuition + the blurring of boundaries between fact and impression
A conjunction should therefore be interpreted as a new functional combination, rather than simply as two independent planets placed next to one another.
The More Exact the Conjunction, the More Concentrated the Interaction
An exact conjunction occurs at an angular distance of 0°00′.
In practice, astrologers use an orb, the width of which depends on the astrological school, the planets involved, and the type of chart being interpreted.
A conjunction with an orb of 0°30′ will generally be considered much more concentrated than one with an orb of 7°.
When analyzing a conjunction, it is useful to distinguish between:
- the exact aspect;
- the permitted orb;
- an applying conjunction;
- a separating conjunction.
In an applying conjunction, the faster-moving planet is approaching the exact conjunction.
In a separating conjunction, the faster-moving planet has already passed the exact conjunction.
This adds another layer to the interpretation.
A Conjunction Is Not Automatically a “Good” Aspect
This is one of the most common misunderstandings when learning astrological aspects.
Because the conjunction does not involve an inherently tense angle such as the square or opposition, it is sometimes incorrectly classified as a purely harmonious aspect.
In reality, the conjunction is neutral in its geometry but extremely powerful in its concentration.
Its character depends largely on the planets involved.
Например:
Venus ☌ Jupiter
This conjunction combines two principles that can often cooperate relatively easily:
pleasure + values + relationships + expansion
Now compare this with:
Mars ☌ Saturn
Mars represents the impulse to act.
Saturn represents restriction, structure, discipline, and control.
Mars says:
“Act.”
Saturn says:
“Stop. Check. Structure.”
This can create tension, but the same combination can also produce an exceptional capacity for disciplined, sustained, and purposeful action.
This illustrates why aspects should not be mechanically divided into “good” and “bad.”
The Conjunction as Concentration
One of the most important characteristics of the conjunction is concentration.
When several planets gather within a small area of the horoscope, that particular region of the chart becomes especially significant.
For example, imagine:
Sun ☌ Mercury ☌ Venus
located in the 10th house.
The themes of identity, thinking, communication, values, attraction, and social interaction may all become strongly connected with career, public image, achievement, and one's direction in life.
Therefore, when interpreting a conjunction, we should always ask:
Which planets are involved?
In which sign?
In which house?
How exact is the conjunction?
What other aspects does the conjunction receive?
These questions take us beyond the simple observation that “two planets are next to each other” and lead us toward a meaningful interpretation.
The Conjunction in Different Types of Astrological Charts
The fundamental principle of the conjunction remains similar, but its meaning changes according to the type of chart being interpreted.
In a natal chart, a conjunction shows two psychological functions that are strongly interconnected within the personality.
In transits, a conjunction activates a natal planet or point and often marks the beginning of a new cycle between the planets involved.
In Синастрия, one person's planet directly activates the planetary principle represented by the other person's planet.
In a composite chart, a conjunction indicates functions that operate as a unified center within the relationship itself.
Thus, the same geometric principle can manifest differently depending on the level and context of interpretation.
How to Interpret a Conjunction
A practical method is to begin by assigning each planet a verb or basic function.
Например:
Mercury – I think and communicate.
Mars – I act and assert.
Then combine them:
Mercury ☌ Mars
“I think through action, and I act through thought.”
Or:
Venus ☌ Saturn
“I connect through stability, boundaries, commitment, and responsibility.”
Or:
Sun ☌ Jupiter
“I expand my identity through growth, meaning, knowledge, and broader horizons.”
This approach is much more useful than memorizing dozens of fixed interpretations.
The Essence of the Conjunction
The conjunction is fundamentally an aspect of union.
Two planets occupy the same area of the zodiac, and their functions begin to operate as a system.
They may support one another.
They may contradict one another.
They may amplify one another.
They may fundamentally alter the way each other is expressed.
But they are difficult to separate completely.
The simplest formula for understanding a conjunction is therefore:
Planet A + Planet B = a new combined planetary complex
And the more exact the conjunction, the more tightly connected these two functions become.
The conjunction does not necessarily tell us whether the interaction will be easy or difficult.
It tells us something more fundamental:
These two planetary energies are called to operate together.
